Things to keep in mind before jumping to conclusions about Infinity System

I'm seeing a ton of "The sky is falling" type posts, some of which are founded in reality, some that are based on false information, some based on an understanding that is neither confirmed nor denied, and some that is just straight up wrong.

In an effort to avoid people having an overly positive or overly negative perception of the changes, I encourage everybody to keep the following things in mind, in no particular order.

Omega Points will be converted to Infinity Points

What this means
The time you've spent to earn the Omega Points you've already earned is not in vain. You still are rewarded, the unit of measure is just different. It's like having 10 dimes, which you go to the bank and exchange for a one dollar bill. You can still buy stuff, you've still got 100 cents worth of currency, it's just a different format.

What this doesn't mean
This doesn't explicitly mean that you will lose any "spending power". Spending power from one system to another isn't necessarily 100% consistent. The important thing to note is that nobody's taking away 9000 omega points from you if you're capped, your XP is just being transformed.

What we're still unsure of
The scaling required is still unclear. Presumably it would follow the existing omega curve (straight-line incremental requirements) but it could conceivably have a more or less punishing curve. We aren't sure.

Infinity Points will be allocated automatically when the system launches

What this means
When you log in, your omega points will be converted as described above. These points will be allocated and evenly distributed across all of the available options. This likely was done so that you can hit the ground running if you really want, and not take the time to allocate anything. After all, whether you started off with 0 points allocated or 100% of your points allocated incorrectly, you still would have to do work. At least doing it this way, they may have some people who are happy with it initially.

What this doesn't mean
This doesn't explicitly call out anything regarding the reallocation of Infinity Points, or any requirements in how you allocate them. It was also stated that " you will allot your points based on what you want to emphasize in your play style".

Let's take a look at this picture:

Presumably the numbers underneath each gem are an indicator of the number of points allocated in each gem attribute or something along those lines. If that's the case, I'd expect all of these numbers to be within 1 of each other, if there was any requirement for true even distribution being forced by the system. Given that it's not, I think it's premature to suggest that we must continue to equally balance our points.

What we're still unsure of
Despite the above picture, we still don't really know how the points will be allocated. But I'm pretty sure we'll be free to choose what we want, both because of the wording and the screenshot above.

Costs for things in the Infinity System are NOT finalized yet

What this means
It means that you shouldn't read too much into the example provided (where +1 Attribute MAY cost you 25 points). The example provided said it MAY be the case, not that it WILL be.

What this doesn't mean
I wouldn't expect all numbers would be finalized (they weren't for the Omega revamp, no reason to believe they are now) so keep an eye on this, but don't be too concerned yet.

What we're still unsure of
Simply put: basically everything.

Attributes are also fundamentally changing. Things that we have today will not be the same after the patch. Hulk will gain damage with Durability. He doesn't today. There may be changes in how much extra power an Attribute provides post-changes as well. As a result, we don't really have a "standard" by which to judge these changes yet.

Additionally, there are other costs associated to Omega system Attributes (prereqs) that may not be considered in the statement, and it was just an example to provide an example, not necessarily a concrete finalized number.

There is a 'Reset Infinity Points option

What this means
We can reset Infinity Points.

What this doesn't mean
Pretty self-explanatory, your selection is not 100% set in stone.

What we're still unsure of
I'm putting it in this category, BUT I'm pretty sure - we can reset Infinity Points. All of them. And allocate them however we want. I've seen a number of people say that this option would just reset the points for this specific gem only. That is a statement that is unsupported by anything posted in the blog and explicitly contradicts current game design. Omega System has the Reset option on an individual tree (not on the main screen), and yet it resets ALL of them. No reason to believe this will behave any differently until we're told otherwise.

We have fewer options than we had in the Omega system

What this means
The system is being simplified for many obvious reasons. Omega was overly complex - it did not achieve the goals the system set out to do, which is too bad. Analysis paralysis is a good term to use on this one. We will have fewer options which should hopefully mean less waste, quicker allocation of points, and a less daunting task to figure out what you want.

What this doesn't mean
This doesn't mean that your heroes will necessarily be weaker. Simplification isn't inherently bad, just like complexity isn't inherently good. We need a balance, and the goal of this system is an easier-to-manage balance. It doesn't mean that the devs want everything to be homogeneous across heroes.

What we're still unsure of
Some have said that this further points to a console port/version; it seems to make sense that this is the way we're moving toward, but we still have no confirmation.

Other things to consider:

Here are a few other 'Unknowns' that we should just keep in mind, since how it all gets rolled out will impact how this stuff works:
1. We do not have complete information on if XP boosts will impact Infinity Points differently (presumably no, but still, we're not sure)
2. We do not have complete information on how the Personal Difficulty Slider will impact XP and difficulty. Yes, we know it will, but to what extent we aren't really sure.
3. We do not have complete information on how the Personal Difficulty Slider will behave in various content like Raids.
4. We do not have complete information on how Danger Room Tournaments and the like will be run (will there be brackets based on Infinity Points? etc..)
5. See a trend here?

Freaking out based on incomplete information solves and helps nothing. Attempting to understand the answers to your open questions so you can construct your own informed opinion is important, so be sure to address these questions in a positive, open manner.

Example of a poorly-constructed question:
Are you Language! kidding me? This is such BS, why are you allocating my points without even asking me?? What if I don't want to put points in something?

Example of a well-constructed question:
I get that you guys are allocating Infinity Points upon system launch. Will we be able to reset that, and do we need to keep any sort of balance across all six gems?

These both drive at the same thing. Which do you think Devs will be more open to addressing??

That's all from me today.

I really just wish people put some more critical thinking into their questions and went through the process of reading and re-reading posts before jumping to conclusions, screaming about nerfs, and such.

Note: I do have my concerns about this change, certainly. I do not think that this update will be without its flaws, I just know there's no point in being overly negative when we don't have the complete picture

TL,DR: We have relatively little information on the system other than a few tidbits of information about the general mechanics. We don't have enough specifics. We don't have enough specifics - in some case, we have no specifics on other fundamental changes that impact the system as well.

Everybody should make sure that they are basing their opinion on facts and what we know for certain, and ask well-constructed questions about any of your open concerns. Once things are in TC, provide constructive feedback rather than jumping to conclusions based on this incomplete information.
