Dev Blog 3 has been released, and what I feared would happened, for me, will happen.
I understand it. When you'll have 60 and more heroes, you need a simplier system to appeal the vast majority of gamers who don't spend hundreds and hundreds hours, if not thousands, in the game. Easier gearing, easier power system, so they're not afraid to buy new heroes. That's understandable. That's fair. Logical.
I hate that. I love tweeking, I love theorycrafting, I love having many points to spend in many abilities, I love having to think, even in a game where there's obvious choices (hello Warpath my old friend), because past those obvious choices there's still a lot to choose from. I know that 10 points for +5 damages or 1 point for +5 damages is the same, in the end. But thing is, I like to be able to put 9 points for +4.5 damage and 1 point in something else. I like when it's complicated, because it's rewarding when you have finally been able to sort it out.
I know I'm wrong, but I can't shake off the feeling that Gaz is saying "You're too dumb, here a kindergarden power sheet from which you can build your characters now". I feel like going from MTG to Hearthstone. "Here's your new power system, you only have to choose 5 talents" "Here's your new items, only 5 simple stats on each" "here's your new omega system, only 30 nodes to choose from!" It's great for new players, for me it feels too limited.
It was needed. It's just not for me.
Another thing is, there's absolutely no hint about new content into those dev blogs. And it's not a problem either, because "new" players don't need new content, there's already so much to do. I would love new, big, difficult content, but the game doesn't need it. Story mode, patrol, danger room. There's a lot to do. It's just that after hundreds of hours in each, I don't really want to do them anymore.
So yeah, good job Gazillion, you've made the right choice, just not the one I wanted.
