Back in august UFC fighter Tyron Woodley teased "I don’t know if I can even say this but I’m working on a Marvel movie on Thursday in Atlanta." Tyron of course thought he was being careful by not mentioning the movie by name. But that doesn't seem to be the case as the above quote landed him in hot water with Marvel's Legal Department. The film he said he was going to be in was obviously Spider-Man: Homecoming because it was the only Marvel project being filmed in Atlanta at the time.
In a more recent interview with Fox Sports, Woodley revealed that the short tease landed him in trouble with Marvel. "Number one, this is what I said - I said that I could be working on a Marvel movie very soon, and I didn’t put two-and-two together. I was in Atlanta, the only Marvel movie at that time [in Atlanta] was Spider-Man — I didn’t put those things together. When you're working on a Marvel movie, their Legal Department do not play. So they got word of it and everyone started coming down on me - the people that were casting me for the part."
Woodley went on to say that he's no longer going to be in the film but says it's not because Marvel fired him but it's because of a commitment to the UFC 205 title defense against Stephen Thompson which airs on Fox on November 12. "I did not do it because I had a previous obligation with Fox, and I thought that was a better play long-term. And I’m a man of my word."
So whether he was fired or it was just his commitment to UFC that prevented him from appearing in next years Spidey flick we'll probably never know.
Spider-Man: Homecoming swings into theaters July 7, 2017.
