I've heard Dr. Strange compared favorably to Scarlet Witch, who's one of my favorite heroes in this game, so I was looking forward to playing him. Unfortunately I found his damage output sorely lacking during his first leveling run, even accounting for it being his first run (ie his Legendary wasn't yet leveled, no relics, etc.). For example I think the Doom fight in Chapter 8 took probably five or six minutes, which is at least double what I've experienced with other characters I've leveled in recent months.
Given what I've heard about Dr. Strange, that just doesn't seem right. So before I level him again or decide whether to spend the time to gear him for end-game content, I figured I'd ask a few questions to try to figure out what I'm doing wrong.
First, I generally followed this build, at least as far as power selections and rotation are concerned:
http://marvelheroes.info/build/36345/
I've used builds by that same person for other heroes and have generally found them to be decent, but this could be an exception. Does that just seem like a really substandard leveling build to those of you who are more experienced with Dr. Strange? Are Fangs builds in general just really that inferior to the more common Incantations builds?
Second, which mechanic are you using to access a second bar? Are you using a modifier key (ie hold it down to access the second bar, use those skills, release it to return to first bar) or are you using the game's built-in bar switching function? Either way, what key (or keys) are you using? A modifier key seems like the logical answer to me, but it feels really awkward to try to hold the obvious choice (LeftAlt) with my thumb while still accurately hitting my skill keys, at least on my keyboard.
I figured I'd try an Incantations build for my next leveling run, but I haven't needed to use a full (or nearly full) second bar on any of the other heroes I've played. I'm familiar with zeCrazyEye's guide to using extra hotkeys. In fact I've used one of his methods for binding Q, E, and R to the F-keys, but that's just not enough extra hotkeys for for a full Incantations build.
Finally, if the build I used for my first leveling run is just no good, is there another one-bar (plus one to three extra keys) build for Dr. Strange that's decent? While I don't have an RSI or arthritis, I am older than the average MH player and my manual dexterity isn't quite what it was two or three decades ago. Is there a decent option if I find that I just can't make a full two-bar build work, or should I just regretfully allow the good doctor to join the group of heroes I play infrequently, if ever?
