I have played off and on since 2013. I am not a "veteran" or a mathlete or a minmaxer or a tax preparer. My builds are Fisher Price. My gear is from K-Mart. But my body is your party.
I liked the redesign of chapter 1 and I don't understand why some people are getting so nasty and so rude about it.
I liked the linear design, probably because I'm an idiot and need to be told where to go, but also because it just makes sense. Since it's a starting area, it makes sense to corral the player into a specific path. Subsequent chapters should allow for more exploration, but this chapter has made the most of the linear design. The cut scenes are nice too. The addition of the dynamic combat also makes the game slightly more challenging at that level than I'm used to, which was a nice change of pace.
Ultimately, it brought back memories of playing this game in 2013 and got me excited about the direction of the game. Maybe I'm a scrub-a-dub noob casual, but whatever I'm having fun. Good job @Asros and @MichaelMayhem and @AgentVapor and other people.
And to the people who are complaining about the linear design, I say this:
