Back when Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 1 premiered it had strong viewer ratings but season after season has seen a big decline in the series viewership and the show has been added to a new time slot at 10pm on Tuesdays rather than the previous 9pm time slot it had in past seasons. Marvel doesn't seem to be fairing too well on ABC. The first example was Agent Carter, it got pretty decent critical reviews but the viewer numbers were very lacking. Another example would be the cancellation of the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spin-off series "Marvel's Most Wanted" just as they were still filling out the cast. ABC president Channing Dungey has expressed a bit of disappointment and has said that ABC will be reevaluating its approach to Marvel TV.
"We all came to an agreement that the next show that we want to do together is something that is as creatively strong as it can be," said Dungey. A follow up question was posed as to whether ABC would look to replicate the Netflix model to which she replied, "That’s an interesting question, and we have talked a little bit about that, yes."
ABC still has 2 marvel projects in development as well. One of those being a series by John Ridley which is rumored to be a series starring Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel and there is also a Damage Control series in development as well. As these projects were announced under the tenure of former ABC Entertainment President Paul Lee, it remains to be seen whether they'll move forward under Dungey.
