First we would like to start by saying this post is comprised of nothing but opinions from veteran players from the Apex Gaming supergroup, nothing within this post is factual and everything should be taken with a grain of salt.
Some of us decided to post this after our most recent podcast because we have seen many many people asking for some kind of unbiased tier list. Again this post is 100% opinion from veteran players who want to aid in the development of the game. We are seeing a lot of new faces in our community and we'd like to give them a general idea of how heroes compare.
We picked 5 brackets to place heroes and the heroes are NOT placed in any specific order related to their power within the bracket. Signatures, ultimate abilities and costumes(I am a cosmetic junkie) are briefly discussed as well.
S Tier Heroes: Heroes we believe exceed the intended power curve
Blade - Some clunky animations in his kit but with the most over tuned Ultimate, signature and primary spender abilities in the game it’s hard not to put him in this category
Signature: 2 options, both Imba
Ultimate: Imba
Costumes: Despite being a new hero his costumes look like they were designed years ago
Rogue - Gazillion said screw it all with this hero. Every heroes kit is built and designed around an intended amount of layered damage… Rogue has as many layers as she has powers. Rogue really doesn't play by any rules established in game
Signature: Great signature ability, aoe with high damage
Ultimate: Solid Ultimate which gives her the powers of other X-men for a limited time
Costumes: Rogue has a few solid costume choices my favorite being Age of X
Ghost Rider - Ghost Rider is sitting in an elite few at the top of the charts. Below a 3 minute ttk, great survivability and an all around fun kit.
Signature: THE PENANCE STARE IS GHOST RIDERS DEFINING ABILITY AND IT DEFINES HIS Language! ALL RIGHT
Ultimate: Takes you out of the character’s normal actions and is subjectively cool. Does “Ok” DMG.
Costumes: Got one for Alejandra, a What If!? And Evel Knievel as well as a couple of others. Still missing Wild West variant with Horse!
Black Cat - On top of a low 3 minute TTK she has 9 lives which don’t count towards death counters for some reason.
Signature: Spider-Man’s Ult or I don’t know what the other even is to be honest.
Ultimate: High DMG DoT, Roid, and makes her invulnerable, this character just doesn't make sense within the context of this game.
Costumes: Newer hero only has 2 options, both look excellent
A Tier Heroes: The Top Tier
Black Panther - Super fun and agile character with a solid kit and multiple build options, coupled with an empowered ult and 2000 unaware damage not counted for in his TTK’s. Panther is truly up there in power.
Signature: Okay signature with a temporary roid, usable in rotation
Ultimate: Empower Ult with nice layered damage. Excellent
Costumes: lots of high quality costumes along with an enhanced gender swap to Shuri making Panther an accessible option for any cosmetic princesses.
Daredevil - Auto brut kick allows you to abuse gear choices to maximize this character in a way that makes him what we would consider over tuned, guy kicks for 10m every 3s…… Combo point character which isn’t for everyone, but if you can manage his points effectively he’s a savage
Signature: over nerfed with his review, huge dps loss in rotation… gaz plz
Ultimate: If not for the roid his ultimate gives I doubt it would be very good
Costumes: Few good choices, most notably his redone default which looks excellent!
Deadpool - Dude has ZERO resource. Do what you want when you want how you want. Excellent review, nice layers, free teleport, unique resource (awesome: offensive stats scale w/spirit), 2 viable build options being melee and ranged
Signature: Server Lag is sweet, one of the better signatures in the game. Aoe CC irresistible.
Ultimate: If you like throwing things, this is the best ultimate ever. On a positive note the damage is awesome.
Costumes: Lots of options including Enhanced Pirate and Enhanced Lady Deadpool!
Doctor Doom - Multiple build options allow you to play Doom in a multitude of ways, none of which are bad options, having a spirit free teleport isn’t a bad thing either! However he clutters your screen with pets and that can have an impact on game performance. Probably one of the best presented heroes in this game. Awesome Voice Acting as well. Kudos Gaz.
Signature: 3 options all amazing
Ultimate: Let’s just call this God Doom
Costumes: All of Dooms costumes are comic book accurate, but are nothing to write home about.
Elektra - Tremendous burst damage, lots of layers, 2 executes that one hit kill anything without a boss tag, teleport, invisibility, a pet that makes her unkillable
Signature: AoE arachnid assault style ability, it’s awesome
Ultimate: Huge DPS that is all
Costumes: Default is a big NOPE but she has a fantastic secondary costume inspired by the television series starring Daredevil on Netflix.
Green Goblin - Stormin’ Normin’ is in excellent shape after some post launch touch ups with a few viable AND fun builds. Can Move and Shoot at the same time.
Signature: Signature is hit and miss I am told (no pun intended)
Ultimate: IMBA
Costumes: If you like fishnets pretending to be chainmail... This is your boy!
Invisible Woman - this is another character that has improved heavily due to the increase in itemization options. High team utility with invis and healing bubble
Signature: Massive damage, 5 pulses, resets 2nd resource, stacking defensive layers giving her survivability.
Ultimate: One of the only unbreakable abilities left, nice damage and slow
Costumes: They are all comic book accurate but her face…. Her face :(
Jean Grey - 3 build options, all low 3 minutes, some of the best AoE the game has to offer, solid TTL and her hair, THE HAIR!
Signature: Aoe irresistible CC with high burst 10/10 would bang
Ultimate: Huge damage, nice roid, full Phoenix Force refill
Costumes: Hyunnnnngggggg, Jean has like 7 redone costumes and they are all GODLIKE ranging from Phoenix to 90’s you can’t go wrong with any of these. Some of @TheDink ‘s finer work.
Magik - Fun to play, 2 solid build options, free teleport, great burst
Signature: High burst, nice healing component
Ultimate: DARK CHIIIIIILD, I don’t use the word metal but this ultimate is metal AS CENSORED. Biggest Roid in the game and awesome deeps
Costumes: All excellent with the exception of the achievement freebie, but it’s free so there’s that.
Nova - Has great DMG, and ok survivability but his playstyle involves you dashing away from your enemies over and over. It’s like playing the late great Ali in a way. Float like a butterfly, Nova Dash out like a Bee.
Signature: Amazing sig, lets you spam any and all of his abilities w/o them going on cooldown.
Ultimate: Summons the Nova Corps. It’s alright
Costumes: Nova has been severely neglected in this category, giving you the cartoonish option of Sam or the more realistic option of Richard
Scarlet Witch - At one point she was the game’s defining character. She carried everyone on her back and still does to some degree. Great character with multiple build options. Has the somewhat unique ability to erase non-boss tagged mobs
Signature: Erase all the things and boosts a good amount of her abilities for a limited time
Ultimate: Aoe Vacuum with irresistible stun and huge burst into layered damage.
Costumes: Few nice options with her MCU skins and an enhanced Wiccan to genderbend if playing ladies isn’t your thing, the rest are disgusting
Silver Surfer - Fun and powerful. Has a unique resource (the power cosmic), unique mechanics with deconstruct/reconstruct, high mobility, multiple build options, and solid damage.
Signature: High damage, aoe, buffs EMF
Ultimate: 20s INVULN WHADUPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP
Costumes: He’s a silver dude on a board with blue or red particles. Take your pick.
Thor - Melee or Ranged viable. He truly feels like the God of Thunder. Great voice acting and audio effects on this character go a long way in making him feel powerful
Signature: Autocrit, slightly undertuned imo
Ultimate: High damage empower ultimate that scales with PD (lolwut)
Costumes: Thor has an excellent costume selection for any cosmetic junkie with THEE enhanced costumes including Earth X Thor and Beta Ray Bill. Most notable however is the All New All Different Jane Foster Thor.
Punisher - Punisher’s War Journal comes with a guide to solid damage. Unique ammo mechanic requiring you to reload with an ability, nice layers that gives him more of a traditional MMO-like playstyle. He fell off a bit after his nerfs but came back pretty strong recently due to the influx of gear options that became available to Frank.
Signature: Tons of dmg
Ultimate: GET IN THE VAN. The Punisher Van that is.
Costumes: Some solid options including Enhanced Rachel Cole and Omega Effect costume.
B Tier Heroes - Currently viable, may or may not be fun to play
Ant-Man - Unique resource, controls ants, feels like Ant-man should with shrinking and growing mechanics. We generally really enjoy his design
Signature: GIANT MAN!!!!!! HP Roid and nice damage!
Ultimate: You become a Tornado of flarking red fire ants. GG!
Costumes: Limited selection but all good choices!
Cable - Cable’s rework took FOREVER, but I believe they did him justice. Three build options all of which are viable, solid damage and a nice kit with good layer options.
Signature: Comes from the future to go back to the past to save the future with a GIANT BOMB
Ultimate: Unique in the sense that you control where it goes with your vuln skill, super nice damage and fun to use
Costumes: Cable has a lot to choose from when it comes to costumes and you can’t really go wrong with any of them, just depends on what era of cable you want to play as :D
Captain America - Tanky. Durable. Fun block mechanic. Nice layered damage. Great animations. Feels like Cap’.
Signature: FREEDOMMMMMMMMMMMMM. Sig is nice and it restores half of your spirit making spirit management a non issue on Cap
Ultimate: Back to the drawing board please. Great concept, poor execution.
Costumes: Best costume are locked behind FC1 or recently released Civil War Movie tie-in. Other than that he’s got some excellent buyable options.
Dr. Strange - Strange deserves to be higher but Gazillion’s resistance on adding a second action bar really limits the potential of the character due to needing third party programs to maximize his deeps. Fun animations and I feel they truly captured the essence of the character.
Signature: IT’S THE EYE! Tons of dmg.
Ultimate: Swirly Swirly GIANT ball of death
Costumes: Ehhhh… I’m not really a fan of anything they’ve put out for Strange sadly. Some of his coolest costumes in comics aren’t here yet.
Emma Frost - Saw some serious nerfs after her QoL update. Her melee build is fun and probably her best option. She IS the tankiest character in the game. If you need to do hard content she is an excellent option.
Signature: Over tuned, AoE CC, Invuln
Ultimate: THE Cuckoos. Thematically it’s a nice ultimate.
Costumes: SEX APPEAL BOYS (and girls), SEX APPEAL. Her defaults getting a rework and its lookin pretty nice.
Human Torch - Human Torch has come a long way with all of the items that have been added to the game over the last year. I believe he could still use some tweaks to survivability but his damage is acceptable and he feels like Johnny.
Signature: Alright sig, fire pulses from Johnny while giving him a large move speed burst
Ultimate: There was a time where this was the BEST ultimate in the game. Rains fire for 30s.
Costumes: Torch suffers from all of his costumes with the exception of 1 being released a long time ago, due to this they all appear very dated.
Iceman - 2 Viable builds being ranged and summoner. Unique visuals, Ice block is fun, freeze mechanic is fun, feels like Bobby. If you played a D3 Mage, Iceman is for you :)
Signature: Spins around on an ice sled, invulnerable and high damage.
Ultimate: Freezes all the things. High damage
Costumes: Okay choices, nothing to write home about
Iron Fist - another character you could argue A tier. We stuck him here due to a heavy, precise skill rotation being required to maximize this character. Overall he’s fun, feels like Iron Fist and brings some unique things like his stances to the table
Signature: KABOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM
Ultimate: He is the dragon and he is awesome. Tons of damage
Costumes: All done by @TheDink . All awesome.
Mr. Fantastic - Not everyone’s cup of tea but he has nice damage layers and a competitive TTK. fairly durable and would feel like Mr. Stretch if he were just a little less clunky.
Signature: Turns into a GIANT rubber ball and crushes. Fun to look at and solid damage.
Ultimate: Another team-up ultimate. This one does decent however and is a viable option.
Costumes: All comic book accurate, can’t complain really
Nightcrawler - Dated kit, needs QoL. Just got a huge buff to his signature basically solving all of his problems damage wise. Some okay animations for blink/teleport powers but he just really needs a kit/animation update for sword powers. He really shows his age of development
Signature: 5 Charges, tons of dmg, massive roid, no complaints here
Ultimate: Buffed by his signature buff, tremendous single target dps, not so great when it comes to AoE
Costumes: Nightcrawler is sexay
She-Hulk - Difficult character to play. Requires laser focus while managing combo points. Low TTL and but still viable option for most content.
Signature: Single target pile driver, somewhat underwhelming
Ultimate: Awesome ult, nice roid, big damage, visually pleasing
Costumes: Everything but her variant isn’t very good IMO
Spider-Man - Spider-Man is one of, if not the most iconic marvel superhero. As such he should feel powerful AND be a poster child for the game. At one point he served as this, but after going about the wrong way in nerfing him he has fallen off a bit. 2 viable build options and overall he is very fun to play, feels like Spider-Man should
Signature: Nice aoe, layered damage, restores spirit
Ultimate: HUGE HUGE damage and an amazing 30s roid to give you a massive boost in DPS
Costumes: Yup hes got those.
Thing - While not our favorite, he does deserve his place here. Ben has a solid kit with nice layers and a couple different options while building him. He’s very durable and has a tremendous health pool
Signature: core component to characters kit, builds his secondary resource and increases the duration of its clobberin time!
Ultimate: Empowered channel ability with solid damage, empowered ultimates are always awesome
Costumes: Besides Fear Itself, he’s a rock in shorts…. Not much to be said
Vision - Vision is a bit of a weird one at the moment. Has a “pet build” that just seems there. He’s got an Ok melee build and a really high DMG Ranged build that’s unfortunately extremely inconsistent. He’s locked behind a pretty high skill cap that requires being capable of managing multiple timers in various ways.
Signature: Nice damage. Core kit component
Ultimate: Nice damage. Unstoppable CC. Good layered damage.
Costumes: Very limited and none of them bad. He’s scheduled for a pretty cool upcoming costume.
Captain Marvel - Extremely dated kit, but she does well in the TTK and TTL departments. It’s cool they updated her icons when they changed her default from Ms. Marvel to Captain Marvel. I just wish new animations came with this.
Signature: Core kit component. Feels very underwhelming and clunky when regenerating her 2nd resource.
Ultimate: Unkillable, high damage, fire hair lel
Costumes: Default is probably her best option as it uses the modern standards for costumes
Winter Soldier - Two viable builds, some really awesome animations, and an amazing Voice Actor (David Hayter. The only acceptable Solid Snake.) He’s a little on the squishy side which is his biggest issue right now, but his ranged build is solid DMG as is his melee.
Signature: Vortex and burst. Great signature.
Ultimate: You fly a damn Quinjet and machine gun people from inside the cockpit. Really awesome, ok DMG too.
Costumes: Nothing to brag about, still waiting for him to look like he sounds. SOLID SNAKE!
C Tier Heroes - Underperforming heroes that could use a boost
Black Widow - While undergoing 3 different reviews Widow just seems to be missing something. She is fun to play and utilizes stealth mechanics, but does not have a very good TTK and is very squishy. She could use some R&R.
Signature: Core component of the character. A massive roid that gives stealth
Ultimate: Garbage
Costumes: Widow has a handful of excellent costumes to choose from
Gambit - My personal favorite (Ateya) besides Jean Grey, his ranged build is fine but the majority of his animations are disgusting and should be completely redone, DMH is absolutely awful to look at and whoever came up with the idea to make it his main spender should feel bad, real bad. Melee is the only way I can play this character but he’s not very good, his cooldown powers are severely undertuned. It’s almost like Gaz was afraid to make Gambit not suck.
Signature: Thematically awesome signature, very hard to maximize damage as it’s a small line and enemies don’t typically remain stationary
Ultimate: Hot Garbage. The entire ultimate does about 5% of the damage that characters like Spider-Man’s ult do. Get your stuff together when it comes to Gambit Gaz, srsly.
Costumes: Death and MarvelNOW! Are about all I can stomach due to the others being incorrect and lazy
HULK - HULK SMASH? HULK NO GREAT! HULK NO SMASH! HULK NEED HELP! HULK STRONGEST THERE IS IN FUTURE!?
Signature: HULK SOMETIMES SMASH!
Ultimate: HULK SMASH!
Costumes: HULK RUBBER! HULK TOY STORY! RAWRGGGGGG!
Kitty Pryde - Kitty is a hard one to place. On one hand she has invulns for days making her near unkillable, on the other hand her build options are whack and you have to weave to get decent times.
Signature: Cool ability, pulls enemies, even bosses underground.
Ultimate: Soul sword, hits a few things, get a buff, underwhelming and uninspired
Costumes: I’m not impressed
Moon Knight - unique mechanic with Konshu’s idols, huge burst, tanky, some players wet dream, very dated design ioo
Signature: by 2015 standards Huge huge dmg, that is all
Ultimate: Okay damage, irresistible 80% slow for 20s
Costumes: I don’t think Mr. Moon has any bad costumes
Rocket Racoon - 3 different build options, his damage just seems a bit on the low side unless clever usage of game mechanics come into play while configuring groot ;) he could use a little r&r
Signature: Fires 5 rockets, AHA thats lame
Ultimate: Giant mech suit, it was awesome till they nerfed it to oblivion, then they gave GG an ult that does like 200m damage lmfao.
Taskmaster - Received a rather large buff to his signature ability giving him a much needed boost. Overall he has a very dated copy/paste design and could use some serious refreshing to get him up to snuff. We put him here because he is still fun, relatively viable and has excellent dialogue with the freshest sig in all the land.
Signature: Awesome signature, HUGE HUGE HUGE roid and lets you shoot home movies lel. Maybe he can send some of his tapes to Gaz reminding them they promised him a QoL.
Ultimate: Boring as Hawkeye, bad damage, and who cares about his students? Let’s be honest here
Costumes: Avengers World, that is all
